Lyrics worth the Link

All lyrics are locally hosted, so there are no annoying pop-ups to worry about!

In the interest of full disclosure, I must admit that I have placed carefully selected advertisements & Amazon.com listings that are related to lyrics page that they appear on.

Hopefully you'll find them interesting and/or useful but you are also totally free to enjoy the lyrics and completely ignore the ads. Tried to place them strategically so they won't be in your way. You can copy/print the lyrics w/o the ads.

The Lyrics section is a work in progress, soon to be it's own page w/ a navigation bar (I've learned much about the importance of organization & usability since I began this experiment in web design).

Got any suggestions @ redesigning it &/or songs to include please let me know. Thanks!

Band Websites

Green Day - all the usual + podcasts, ringtones, discography, & an "Idiot Club" (20$ to join). Can watch pretty much all of their videos but can't just listen to music.

Mudvayne - all the usual + an interesting colorwheel interface, a Media Player to listen to their songs and some Korn songs, free downloads of buddy icons and the like, newsletters and contests.

MY Chemical Romance - Flash or HTML site, both launch with music . . . site has the usual news, merchandise, photos ... also features a journal, music videos (Ghost of You, Helena, & I'm not Okay), & music listens ... the music player auto launches as a standalone player & is configurable - a nice little feature b/c you can close the memory-eating flash site & still listen to the music or watch the videos at whatever level suits your connection speed & mood . . .Download screen savers& desktops (perhaps they mean wallpapers?), ringtones, lyrics, & games to play . . . you can join the street team if you want to represent & promote the band or if you are lazy, you can just sign up for the mailing list but fair warning, they are a communicative bunch & will send you lots of info on "their friends" which are basically promo emails for established & unestablished bands both in and outside of their genre ...

Papa Roach - all the usual + photo blog, street teams & can watch pretty much all of their videos.

Puddle of Mudd - all the usual + free music and video downloads.

She Wants Revenge - all the usual plus a store - you have to sort of guess where to find anything due to the creative navigational scheme but the hide n' seek game is kinda fun considering that most band sites follow the same boring formatting scheme.

Thousand Foot Krutch - all the usual + listen to songs ... has an interesting navigation setup that's worth exploring.

Yellow Card - Flash or Html website but the Html site is limited to certain portions & doesn't have the music. . .both link to a contest, let you view the YC video sampler, have a link to their myspace page, let you watch the AP video tour diary (external link), join the mailing list or e-team, read some news and/or yammer on the message board.

Musically Inclined

Websites

Pandora - Pandora is my favorite place to listen to and discover music. It's a free internet radio station that helps you discover music you like. You create your own stations by entering artists or song names & then it guesses (surprisingly well) at other songs you'll like. It adapts based on your input but you can also just skip any songs you don't like. You can share stations w/ friends & the general public. Definitely check out the band profiles section b/c it's got an amazing amount of info consolidated & good recommendations for other groups to check out. Btw this site is for everyone, even your grandma or pre-teen sister would like it b/c it's selection runs the gambit of genres.

AP (Alternative Press) - A ton of music news (general & band specific pages), some of the print magazine's articles & features . . . win free music related prizes in the 10 or so monthly Contests - from the mundane to the wacky - PJ's worn by NOFX being a good example) . . . Polls, Reader Charts, & recommendations . . .Snag an Internship or job (located in Cleveland) ... has some nifty Downloads.

Warped Tour - Tour Dates, contests and much more info re the bands playing and venues

Fanscape Reps - Check out charts and some news and sign up to get involved with and/or to represent for your favorite bands . . . Listen to an ever-changing & pretty random mix of alternative/indie bands on their standalone player ... the best feature isn't the website itself but the weekly mailing list which has hot news & cool links that don't appear anywhere on the mailing list, its worth taking the minute to register & all the other band specific newsletters are completely optional so your inbox will not get cluttered unless you want it to. . Contests, Jobs & Internships

Alternative Addiction - Multiple monthly sweepstakes entries for alternative music merchandise. Worth entering even if you don’t like the bands b/c many are collector’s items that you sell on e-Bay etc.can a substantial profit. Entry forms take @ minute to fill in & you're not required to opt into emails from the musicians or the site.

Free Alternative Music Downloads- Fast, Easy, & LEGAL.Free downloads of alternative songs & full albums. Also has a section for downloads to be purchase, reasonably priced. NOTE: You have to use Internet Explorer .

Right click the “Free Download” button & then choose “Save Target As.” Simply clicking the “Free Download” button will bring you to the artist’s profile which rarely has much info but you can preview the song by clicking the “Free Download” button on that page. Pain in the a$$ yeah, but worth it b/c the music download is: Free, Fast, Easy & Legal.

MTV - an unbelievable, almost overwhelming amount of music and tv related items, I like it for the purpose of playing full songs & videos by most mainstream bands for free. Also offers an ever changing selection of free music downloads from mainstream artists.

Fuse tv - TV stations's websites w/ show info, an extensive music section with video, photos etc, contests & community features

Ferret Music - Hard Rock and Hardcore Alternative music. Label's website. The usual suspects + E-cards, play and download selected MP3 files ( available on each artist's page) + videos & a store.

Roadrunner Records - Record Label (Stone Sour, NickelBack, Theory of a Deadman and the like). The usual music, videos, tour dates + sign up to be on a street team and freebies in the section aptly titled "Free Shit."

My CD Mixes

Note: Click on the icon next to the title to view each mix. The first two mixes are shown in their entirety to give you a sense of my style. The rest are listed by title and need to click the icon, if you want to see the track list.

And, yes I do realize that perhaps only 1 or 2 people in this world might actually click those icons simply because they are interested in what I listen to so I'll take just another moment to of your time to explain why I bothered to upload them.

If you just scanned the titles, you'd probably be amused, or bemused, but they are actually quite clever (in my humble opinion ).The title of each CD creatively incorporates some of the song titles and/or artist's names that are on that CD (no need to let me know if you disagree ) In any event, it is quite a convenience for b/c I know the general tone of the CD at a glance.
